Nippon Express, one of the world’s leading logistics companies, has implemented Vip District’s employee portal to enhance internal benefits and recognition. They not not only strengthened their organizational culture but also placed greater value on individual contributions across the team.

Nippon Express is a global leader in logistics, connecting people and businesses in 56 countries with more than 78,000 employees. Founded in 1937 and today part of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, INC. the company remains committed to innovative, safe and sustainable logistics solutions.

With a culture focused on excellence, they were looking for an effective tool to strengthen their benefits and recognition package. For this, they relied on the Vip District platform, aimed at its more than 130 employees in Spain and Portugal, spread across six locations.

Challenges and Objectives:

In a sector as dynamic and competitive as logistics, attracting and retaining talent is crucial. Nippon Express, aware of the importance of its human capital, identified the need to modernise and centralise its employee benefits. In an employee survey, the company also identified the desirability of implementing improvements in the recognition of the professional work of its staff. At a time when burnout and attrition are on the rise, companies are increasingly aware that an effective strategy to highlight the contributions of their team can have a positive impact on people’s satisfaction and morale. The need for a corporate culture focused on appreciation and recognition is increasingly evident. And Nippon Express’ goal was to go beyond traditional methods to offer a more personalised, meaningful and accessible recognition experience for all its employees.

And Nippon Express, as well as other logistics or facility services companies, for example, has an added difficulty when it comes to employee relations: many employees do not have access to a computer or even a company email. How do you make information about benefits and recognition accessible to all employees?

Solution and Results

Unifying benefits and recognition on a single platform, and bringing this to the entire workforce has been possible thanks to the versatility of the Vip District platform.
Now on a single platform Nippon Express has been able to:

  • Concentrate access to benefits: The platform has enabled the creation of a multi-country, multi-language employee portal, where HR concentrates access to the different benefits it has with other companies (insurance, flexible benefits, etc). And they can even segment so that each employee can see the benefits they actually have access to. Find out more about the Employee Portal.
  • Discount Club: Access to discounts on major brands and local shops, from petrol to leisure, in Spain and Portugal. By using these preferential conditions, Nippon Express employees save an average of €700 per year. Find out more about Vip Savings.
  • Peer recognition: a real wall of praise and positive feedback between colleagues. Nippon Express has defined 5 corporate values that it wants to promote among its team, including the ‘Kaizen Mentality’ and going ‘Above and Beyond’, which drives improvement and innovation. Colleagues give away points to each other based on these values and accompany them with a personalised message. To ensure ethical and positive communication, the platform facilitates artificial intelligence moderation. Learn more about Vip Awards
  • Mobile Access and App: All employees, even without corporate email, can easily access the app and receive real-time acknowledgement messages and see all the discounts they can enjoy from a distance of 10m!

Impact that can be seen and felt

In just a few months since its implementation, the Vip District platform has achieved a level of adherence of over 50% and a recurrence rate of 96%. These figures reflect both the effectiveness of the solution and the excellent internal communication work carried out by the Nippon Express HR team.

The partnership with Vip District has not only improved benefits and recognition management, but has also reinforced the company’s commitment to the well-being of its team.

Investment in Nippon Express’ human capital over the long term translates into:

  • Talent Retention: Valued employees tend to stay.
  • Increased Productivity: Motivated teams are more efficient.
  • Democratised Recognition: Everyone can highlight the value of their colleagues.
  • Strengthened employer brand: Nippon Express reinforces its reputation as an attractive company to work for, attracting top talent in an industry with high turnover.

Nippon Express’ experience with Vip District is a clear example of how innovation in benefits management and recognition programmes can have a significant impact on employee satisfaction and performance, reinforcing the ‘way of doing’ of a leading company in its sector.

“We are aware that a fair recognition of employees' efforts can be motivating, especially if it comes from your own colleagues, and Vip Awards seemed to us to be a very appropriate tool to achieve this. For example, it is now the employees themselves who choose the "Employee of the month", and we believe that this type of action helps to strengthen the team.”
