Challenges and Objectives
Calvia 2000 faced a complex situation in which several challenges were intertwined, affecting not only the retention of talent, but the continuity of a vital service to society.
With an average age of staff of around 50, the company was faced with the challenge of an ageing workforce. This, coupled with the difficulty of attracting young talent to a sector perceived as unattractive, created an urgent need for generational renewal. In addition, high staff turnover revealed the importance of positioning Calvia 2000 as an attractive employer in a competitive labour market.
Added to these challenges is the pressure to maintain an essential service where waste collection cannot be interrupted. In this context, anticipating the demands of the works council and employees becomes a critical task to avoid disruptions. Finally, the company recognised the need to strengthen the emotional bond with its employees, promoting a sense of belonging through initiatives that are integrated into the local economy. These objectives were part of a strategy to ensure the long-term operational sustainability and well-being of its team.
Solution and results
The solution chosen by Calvia 2000 was Vip District’s Vip Savings platform module, which provides employees with access to a wide range of discounts and benefits. This platform was not only quick and easy to implement, but offered the necessary flexibility that Calvia 2000 needed.
More than 51% of employees joined the discount programme during its first few months, a remarkable achievement in an industrial company, where such initiatives often face barriers to adoption. The mobile access to the discount programme and via an App was key to the programme and the uptake.
The platform not only contributed to improving the purchasing power of employees, thus responding to one of the main requests of the works council, but also enhanced social cohesion and a sense of belonging among the staff.
In addition, the flexibility of Vip Savings made it possible to integrate local agreements, creating a strong link between the company and the community in the region. The Calvia 2000 team can autonomously manage and add to the agreements established with local businesses, receive suggestions from employees, etc. Although one of the objectives was to promote local businesses, the discount club also brings discounts that employees can enjoy in shops and businesses across the country and online shops.
The initiative not only met the company’s initial challenges, but exceeded expectations by generating a sense of belonging and social cohesion. Thanks to the holistic approach of the project, Calvia 2000 has consolidated its position as an employer committed to the well-being of its team and the local community.

“Launching a discount programme for employees and collaborators helps to promote social cohesion and a sense of belonging, a clear example of how the care and well-being of employees is fundamental to ensure the success of services.”
